ARCTIC SKUA dark adult Grafham Water - it came from the north ahead of a very heavy downpour at about 4.10pm and 'banked' round above Mander car park and then headed west. It did not return during the next hour and a half at least (Dean Harlow).

At Priors Fen Tree Pipit 1 flying E high calling, Quail 1 calling, Ruff 25, Black-tailed Godwit 2 juv, Ringed Plover 4, Dunlin 1 juv, Redshank 2, Marsh Harrier 3 juvs flying W low, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Turtle Dove 1, Yellow Wagtail c50. Directions to the site: Its between Whittlesey and Thorney on the B1040. Access is from either the B1040 at Stone Bridge Corner west along the public footpath for half a mile (easier since Monday as they cleared the path!) or from Willow Hall Lane 1 1/2 miles east of Thorney on the A47 and 1 1/2 miles south to Priors Farm, a 1 mile walk along the track eastwards to the fen (George/Peterbirder).
At Hitchinbrooke CP Red-necked Grebe reported (Robin Chittenden/BLEA).
At Long Drove, Cottenham 12 Green Sands (Bruce & Gwen Martin).
Possible escaped Purple Gallinule reported 11-12/8 1.2 ml SSE of Needingworth on River Great Ouse at TL350704 (RBA). So it has strolled back from the Nene! This is presumably the bird first seen at Earith in July 1998 and subsequently at various localities (including the Nene Washes RSPB).

She has bells on her legs and is micro-chipped. As you can imagine, Mr Horsfield is quite devastated and tells me that he would go anywhere and do anything to get her back. He is offering a reward of £500 to anyone who finds her. Yesterday evening Princess was seen flying around a field in Finedon but he was unable to catch her. Bob Frost has sent me this: 'I have been told of a Mini Metro 1.3 HLE (Blue) Reg. G160VPH which has either been stolen and dumped, or abandoned in the car park of the Sawtry Cricket Club. It has a number of birding stickers in the window and therefore may belong to one of the local birders. The following stickers were noted: - Birding World, Birdline, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, The Barn Owl Trust, LIPU (Italian RSPB), Marine Life, Rare Bird Alert Pagers. Access details: on no account should anyone enter the pit complex as this is private. To get to the site walk north from Somersham Lake along the old railway line. The large flooded field is obvious after about 10 minutes. Also, the same point can be reached by walking south along the old railway line from the riding stables at Somersham Fen. Again it takes 5-10 minutes to reach (Alan Hitchings).

From Dave Suddaby, Ouse Washes RSPB: We have just had word today from the grazier who's sheep graze the 'banks' along which the hides are situated that he is imminently going to move them down to the section closest to the visitor centre. He has expressed to us that he would like the hides closed to reduce the risk of F&M. We have therefore decided to close all the hides overlooking the reserve for the short-term. A selection of hides should be available for opening on Saturday 14 July.

At c5.15 PM 1 2CY CASPIAN GULL and 4 Yellow-legged Gulls at Landbeach in the cemetery field. Earlier today Milton in the A14 field 1 4CY Yellow-legged Gull & in the A10 field 2 2CY &1 3CY Yellow-legged Gulls. Nearby at Landbeach in the cemetery field 2 2CY, 1 3CY & 1 4CY Yellow-legged Gulls (Dick Newell). There is no access to Milton Tip.
Red Kite (wing-tagged - yellow on left and possibly red on right) just SW of Lode near Anglesey Abbey at c1.45 PM before drifting SW (Bruce & Gwen Martin). This bird is probably from the Chilterns (Chris Monk per Bruce Martin).
